All About That Beat ~ Music Product
First I went to GarageBand and it gave me a list of of options to choose from and they were New Project, Learn to Play, Lesson Store and Recent. Since I was making a new project, I clicked on New Project. It gave me some options on how I wanted my music to be like and the choices were Keyboard, Collection, Amp Collection, Ringtone, Hip Hop, Electronic, Songwriter and Empty Project. I chose Hip Hop, and it took me to an empty screen. On the right hand side were the loops with all the recorded instruments.

- I started with the Beats section and chose Accelerate Beat, I dragged it to the screen.
- After that I listened to some more songs and chose another one called Almost Electro Beat and dragged it to the screen.
- Then I listened to some more songs and clicked on another loop called Bass and chose Aggressive Stance Bass.
- Then I listened to more songs and went back to the Beat section of the loops and chose Analog Clap Beat 1.
- I went back to the Bass section and scrolled down and found Go Time Layered Bass.
- I went back to my track screen and listened to the song. Then I went back to the Beat section and scrolled down and listen to some more beats and chose Almost Electro Beat and added it to my track.
- I went back to the Bass section and listened to some songs to see if any of them could go in together with the track and then I found Power Tool Bass.
- Then I went back into the Beat section and found Armament Beat 1 and dragged it to the screen and went back and played Armament Beat 2 and added it under Armament Beat 1.
- To finish my song, I added House Fever Dirty Bass 6.
- Finally, I replayed the whole thing and I thought it sounded great!
And that is how I made my song using GarageBand.

Heartbeat ~ Music Product
This song was completely electronically manipulated using loops using Garage Band.
A lot of thought and meaning went into this song. This song has many things to explain and I plan to hit every single one of these points with a passion. First, I will start off by listing all of the loops used in this song and why I chose them. Second, I will explain clearly how my song is structured and how I did everything. Thirdly, I will explain why I chose Heartbeat to be this songs name. Lastly, I will tell a short simple interesting story in relation to my musical product.
Musical Loops Used In Heartbeat
Song Structure
The song starts out with a slow piano. Then it continues until another piano loop is added creating one sound in union. Eventually after some time it goes into a louder more intense piano that's by itself. After some time of this it adds a beat to the piano hinting towards a more upbeat song. Eventually a rock guitar gets added and creates a classic trio of the piano, beat, and guitar. After this upbeat rock portion it goes into a quiet acoustic guitar picking. Once this loop plays about twice a calm drum beat loop joins in. After a couple of repeats it goes straight into a drum solo. The drum solo consists of a few different drum beats and then end of with a classic cymbal crash. The cymbal crash is short lived though, as it almost instantly goes into a portion of a loud intense drums and the rock guitar from before. Together they play in union for two loops and then they get quieter every repeat. Eventually you can barely hear them and then the piano duo from the beginning jumps back in. The piano plays once and then a second time but quieter. After this it plays it again but only one of the two pianos and its really loud and then it ends with the final key press from that loop that seems to linger as it fades away. Like a memory.
How
This song consists of many loops constructed on GarageBand. I picked them out of the many sections and found loops that went well together. If I wanted to make them longer I would go to the top right corner of the loops and then I would click and drag until I was satisfied with the length of the loop. All I would do is click on different sections to find what loops I wanted and drag them onto the screen. To make my sound fade over time I would place one loop on row and then put the next one on the row below it. I would then make the row below it quieter than the row above it. I then repeated this process until I had the finished product. I had to make sure that it didn’t interfere with the other loops though. If I made the whole row quieter it would make anything on that row quiet. So a lot of loops had their own rows.
Song Name
The songs name is Heartbeat. I chose this name because the song represents the heart of a human. It starts out with the slow piano (The mothers womb). It speeds up with the 70’s Ballad Piano and the Exotic Beat (Birth and babyhood). It goes into a rock portion (Childhood and teenhood). Then it gets quiet and peaceful (once the confused teen sees everything clearly as an adult). Then it goes into a drum solo ( middle age crisis). After the drum solo it goes into the rock portion (The part of life when you are old and have found a hobby to entertain yourself after retirement). Then it slowly grows to be quieter (Dying). Then it ends of with a memento from the beginning with a soft piano (Death). That is why this songs name is Heartbeat.
Short Story
At the beginning of this project I was very confused. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. In fact I signed up for more than one thing, or thought about doing others. In the end, I chose the music product. In the period of time I was given for my musical production I didn’t do much. All I did was make song after song. None of them were any good either. Eventually I basically gave up. I just started goofing off and not doing any work. After a while of this I was alerted that there was only two weeks remaining. I knew if I didn’t turn anything in it would’ve been horrible. So I went and tried to make a song. I had no idea what I was going to do but I had to do something, and fast. So I looked through the loops and found Emotional Piano 02. After I listened to it I instantly fell in love with how it sounded. I quickly found the first Emotional Piano and connected them and I had a large burst of creativity! So for those two weeks I worked harder than I ever had on this music product, and then I had it! I had finally created a song that I loved. So I knew I had to keep this song and I only hoped it would be selected to go to Lexington, and thankfully it was.

Musical Loops Used In Heartbeat
- Emotional Piano 02- I chose this piano loop because I planned to start out this kind of “Rock song” Slow. I also knew I would later in add the Emotional Piano 01 to create a beautiful union.
- Emotional Piano 01- I chose this loop because without it Emotional Piano 02 sounds good, but it can’t reach its full ability without this loop.
- 70’s Ballad Piano 01- This was a needed choice on my part. Without this piano loop I wouldn’t of had the basis for my beat and my guitar. It was also an excellent transition between the emotional pianos to the more of “Rock” portion of the song.
- Exotic Beat 01- I knew I had to slowly morph the quiet piano into a loud rock part. So I thought i’d add drums but I thought that was overused in most song so I decided on more of a beat that thankfully, went along with the 70’s Ballad Piano 01.
- Edgy Rock Guitar 14- This was a easy yet hard choice for me. It was easy because I knew I was introducing the rock portion but, it was challenging because I had to find a loop that went along well with the 70’s Ballad Piano 01 and Exotic Beat 01.
- Acoustic Picking 18- This one was a bit of a gamble on my part. I knew I had to change the song but I wasn’t sure how. So I thought i’d go into a calmer thing to have some variation. Thankfully it also went along with the end of the part before it.
- Natural Drum Kit 05- The Acoustic Picking 18 needed some sort of beat or drum so it could repeat without boring the audience, that is why I chose this.
- Modern Rock Drums 07- This was to be the first drum loop in a series of drum loops to make a drum solo to lead into the next rock portion.
- Modern Rock Drums 04- This is the second drum loop in the series to create a drum solo. It is needed to create variation in the drum solo.
- Modern Rock Drums 05- This is the third drum loop in the series to create a drum solo. It is needed to create even more variation in the drum solo.
- Modern Rock Drums 06- This is the last drum loop in the series used to end the drum solo.
- Long Crash Cymbal 02- This is the absolute end to the drum solo which is a classic ending to most drum solos.
